Artist Statement

Hidden in plain sight, St A'n wears peaked hood with L’nu (Mi’kmaq) double curve motifs, as observed in a Mi’kmaw church. A reflection on the symbolism of hidden knowledges, survival, cultural preservation. St. A'n as a symbol reappropriates Indigenous ecological and cosmological knowledges practiced prior to contact. The making of this work coincides with trying to locate the records and ancestors of my maternal great grandmother.

Available as a digital print, with accompanied augmented reality scene

Where it's been: Geary Art Crawl 🌱Looking Back While Looking Ahead: with generous support from Canada Council of the Arts, Sky Fine Foods

Looking back at our histories of connection and experience in specific places, while looking ahead into the futures shaped by our dreams and expectations. Artists Elina Lex, Akshata Nail, Amanda Amour-Lynx, True Elmore, Curtia Wright and curator Miriam Arbus come together as an exhibition of digital sculptures activated with augmented reality technologies.

We invite visitors to participate, exploring the Geary stretch and reinventing the ways we navigate through space.

Each artist plants a digital object, ethereal site-specific sculptures that emerge upon interaction. Metaphysical portals that open a shared experience of place while initiating self reflection.

Exhibition installed along Geary Ave, September 23+24 2023 - scan with your phone to activate ✨ 🌱

Love the new artwork in my office and living room. It lifts us up everyday, acts as a conversation piece in Zoom calls, and we love the most being able to support artists in our communities as well.
